Pointers Send 17 to Track & Field Championships

Women's Preview

STEVENS POINT - Twelve men and five women will compete in the purple and gold this weekend as the UW-Stevens Point men's and women's track and field teams descend on Marietta, Ohio for the 2009 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships, hosted by Marietta College.

Action gets underway at 11 a.m. on May 21 and goes through Saturday, May 23.

For the men, 12 student-athletes are set to compete in 10 events including the 200, 400 and 800-meter runs, the 110-meter hurdles, decathlon, 10,000-meter run, pole vault, shot put, hammer throw and 4x100-meter relay.

Keith Ingram (Milwaukee) will compete in both the 200-meter dash and the 4x100 relays. His time of 21.48 at the Dr. Keeler Invite on May 8 qualified him for the 200m. His qualifying time was the eighth-fastest in the nation heading into the championships.

Patrick Leonard (Chicago, IL.), who is also a member of the 4x100 relay team, will compete in the 400m dash for the Pointers. He also qualified for the 17 runner field at the Dr. Keeler Invite at North Central College on May 8.

Adam Lang (Sheboygan) and David Litsheim (Appleton) will compete for the Pointers in the men's 800m run. Lang's time of 1:51.37 and Litsheim's time of 1:51.41, both marked in the season's final three invites, are good for ninth and 10th respectively in the 17 runner field.

Corey Towle (Waukesha)and Dominick Meyer (Beloit) each qualified for the Pointers in the 10,000m run. Towle's time of 30:28.49, marked at the April 18th Meet of Champions, is good for the 11th spot in the field. Meyer was the fields 17th and final entrant, posting a qualifying time of 30:33.55 during the regular season.

Mike Dellemann (Oregon) will compete in two events for the Pointers at the 2009 championships, as he participates in the 110m hurdles and the decathlon. Dellemann was the last qualifier selected for the 17 runner field in the 110m hurdles, posting a 14.75 in the event at the Nike Impact Sports meet in April. Dellemann enters the decathlon after posting a 6523 point performance at April 18th Meet of Champions.

The relay team of Ernest Edmond (Southfield, MI), Ingram, Brad Koback (Amherst) and Leonard also qualified for the Pointers in the 4x100m relay. The group posted a season-best time of 41.44 in the event at the UW-La Crosse Las Chance Meet on May 14 and sit as the nation's 11th ranked relay team in the 15 member field.

Another qualifier from the UW-La Crosse Last Chance Meet was Kyle Scofield (Green Bay). Scofield's toss of 54'2” in the shot put was good for the nation's fifth-best throw this year.

Jerry Prusinski (Rib Lake) will join Scofield in the throwing events, after qualifying for the hammer throw at April's Meet of Champions. Prusinski's throw of 180'3” in the hammer is good for the nation's 13th best in 2009.

Rounding out the men's championship field is Mark Cufaude (Evansville), who qualified in the pole vault. At the La Crosse Last Chance Meet, Cufaude cleared a season-best height of 16' ¾”, good for the nation's seventh best performance in the event this season.
