Pointers Serve Past Superior 3-0

STEVENS POINT - UW-Stevens Point improved to 11-14 overall, 3-4 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Friday evening with a 3-0 victory over the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior in Berg Gym. The Pointers won by scores of 25-13, 25-14, 25-13.

The Pointers, who now own a 48-24 all-time record against the Yellowjackets, opened game one on an 11-4 run and never looked back, as the Pointers took full advantage of 11 attack errors by Superior to wrap up game one 25-13.

In game two, with the game tied at 8-8, Michaela Rheineck (St. Paul, MN) served for seven straight UWSP points, pushing the Pointer advantage to 15-8. After a quick Pointer side-out, Chantel York (Lake Geneva) added six straight points for the Stevens Point as the Pointers rolled to the 25-14 victory.

In game saw much of the same for the Pointers as with the game tied 2-2, Pam Nora (Forest Lake, Minn.) served for eight straight Pointer scores, pushing the advantage to 10-2. This time Superior aided the Pointers with 12 attack errors and recorded just six kills as the Pointers cruised to the easy victory.

Nora led the way with seven kills in 18 attempts for the Pointers while Morgan Bartkowiak (Slinger) added six and Christina Brinkman (Bristol) added five. Kaitlin Wolfe (Roscoe, IL) recorded 13 assists on the evening while York and Nora each tallied 11 digs.

The Pointers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 17 when they host UW-Eau Claire at 1 p.m. in the final regular-season home game of the season at Berg Gym. Saturday is also Senior Day for the Pointers.
