STEVENS POINT-The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (10-14, 2-4 WIAC) tried to hold off UW-Whitewater (19-5, 4-2 WIAC) but the No. 10 ranked Warhawks were too much, as they secured the 3-0 victory at Berg Gym Wednesday night. The Pointers lost by scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-12.
Stevens Point tied the game at 16-16 in the first set but was unable to close out the Warhawks, as the visitors went on a 9-2 run to close out the set. In sets two and three, the Pointers held close to UW-Whitewater early, but the Warhawks proved to be too much in the end, as they cruised to the 3-0 conference victory
Pam Nora (Forest Lake, Minn.) led the Pointers with seven kills while
Morgan Bartkowiak (Slinger) added six kills and hit .556 on the night.
Lizzy Taylor (Eau Claire) led the Pointer defense with eight digs.
Chantel York (Lake Geneva) also led the way with 11 assists.
Whitewater was led by Keri Klotzbuecher who had 10 kills. Defensively Alyssa Bauer had 11 digs for the Warhawks.
The Pointers return to action on Friday, October 16, when they host UW-Superior at Berg Gym. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
