Logan Hermsen (Amherst Junction, WI/Amherst) advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Wrestling Championship and repeated as an All-American in day one action at La Crosse. Sophomore
Donny Ralston (Ladysmith, WI/Bruce) also earned All-American status with a trio of wins in the consolation bracket to advance to day two.
Hermsen won his opening match against Lakeland's Mitchell Fucile by an 11-0 major decision. In the quarterfinals, it took Hermsen just 2:18 to record a fall over Augsburg's Lucas Jeske to advance to Saturday's semifinals where he'll face Messiah's Larry Cannon.
Ralston dropped his opening match to Adario Jones of Augustana, 2-1, by sudden victory. He returned a short time later and won by fall at 2:26 over John Georges of Rhode Island College. Ralston followed that in session two with a 5-2 decision win over Adrian's Zac Rieger. In the final match of the day, Ralston overcame an early deficit to knock off fifth-seed Paul Triandafilou by a 4-3 decision to secure All-American honors.
Junior
Dylan Diebitz (West Allis, WI/West Allis) was on the short end of an 11-1 major decision in the opening round at the hands of Ithaca's Carlos Toribio. In the consolation match, Diebitz took an early lead, but fell to Loras' Guy Patron, Jr., 13-6. He ends his season with a 19-19 record and four falls.
Hermsen and Ralston return to action on the final day of the NCAA Wrestling Championships beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
