Roo's Pair leads Men's Hockey to 6-3 Victory Over Bethel

STEVENS POINT, Wis.- Freshman forward Carter Roo (Champlin, MN) tallied a pair of goals to power the No. 3/4 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team to a 6-3 victory over Bethel on Saturday evening at K.B. Willett Arena.
 
With UW-Stevens Point leading by a pair entering the final frame, Roo netted his first two collegiate goals in the span 2:39 to give the Pointers (3-1-0) a 6-2 advantage over Bethel (0-4-0).
 
With just over two minutes remaining in regulation, Tyler Mros scored a power-play goal for Bethel to pull within three.
 
Following a scoreless opening period, the Pointers struck early in the second frame, with Logan Fredericks (Millstone Township, NJ/) finding the back of the net off assists from Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, OK/) and Ryan Bittner (Crookston, MN/), 2:32 into the period.
 
At the 8:50 mark of the second period, Brennen Miller (Keller, TX/) tallied UWSP's first of three power-play goals, putting the Pointers up 2-0 midway through the middle period.
 
Bethel struck back netting a pair of power-play goals to even the game a two apiece with less than three minutes remaining in the second.
 
With just 10 seconds remaining in the second period, Steven Quagliata (Bartlett, IL) scored his first collegiate goal to give the Pointers a one-goal lead entering the final period.
 
Only 56 seconds into the third, Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, WI) scored his third goal of the season to put the Pointers up 4-2. McElhenie's score would hold on to become the game-winning goal.
 
Connor Ryckman (Minesing, ON) made 18 saves in the win for UWSP, including a stop on a penalty shot in the third period.
 
The Pointers will travel to Minnesota next weekend, taking on Saint Mary's and St. Thomas on Nov. 10 and 11.
