STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Sophomore forward
Maddie Monroe (Aurora, IL/Batavia) scored an overtime goal to earn the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team a 2-1 victory over Marian Tuesday night at Ice Hawks Arena.
Monroe tallied her first goal of the season off assists from
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) and
Lexi Englund (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake) to lift UWSP (3-4-1) to victory over the Sabres (2-7-0).
Following a scoreless first frame,
Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Madison Capitols) netted a shorthanded goal to give the Pointers a 1-0 lead 6:51 into the second period.
Ten minutes later Marian's Calle Bye evened the game at one a piece heading into the final period.
The Pointers were unable to capitalize in the third period, putting up nine shots, before Monroe's game- winner in the extra period.
Senior goaltender
Lisa Fowle (Wausau, WI/Wausau West) made 13 saves in the victory for UWSP.
The Pointers return to action traveling to Minnesota for a pair of non-conference matchups at Saint Mary's and Augsburg on Dec. 8 and 9.
