Women's Hockey Grinds Out 2-1 OT Victory

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Sophomore forward Maddie Monroe (Aurora, IL/Batavia) scored an overtime goal to earn the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team a 2-1 victory over Marian Tuesday night at Ice Hawks Arena.

Monroe tallied her first goal of the season off assists from Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) and Lexi Englund (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake) to lift UWSP (3-4-1) to victory over the Sabres (2-7-0).

Following a scoreless first frame, Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Madison Capitols) netted a shorthanded goal to give the Pointers a 1-0 lead 6:51 into the second period.

Ten minutes later Marian's Calle Bye evened the game at one a piece heading into the final period.

The Pointers were unable to capitalize in the third period, putting up nine shots, before Monroe's game- winner in the extra period.

Senior goaltender Lisa Fowle (Wausau, WI/Wausau West) made 13 saves in the victory for UWSP.

The Pointers return to action traveling to Minnesota for a pair of non-conference matchups at Saint Mary's and Augsburg on Dec. 8 and 9.
