STORM LAKE, Iowa – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (1-1) obliterated a program record for three-pointers in a game and cruised to a 93-72 win at Buena Vista (1-1) on Saturday. The Pointers hit 22 of their 37 shots from behind the arc, breaking the previous record of 17 set in 2002.
Junior
Nate Dodge (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) led the way with 8-of-10 shooting from long range. He led all scorers with 28 points. Fellow junior
Mark Nelson (Madison, Wis./Monona Grove) added 14 points with 4-for-5 shooting from three-point range.
Freshman
Garrett Nelson (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam) was perfect from the floor and the free throw line. He scored 10 points with two three-pointers and went 4-for-4 at the charity stripe.
Brett Tauber (Madison, Wis./Memorial) was the fourth UWSP player in double digits with 11 points.
Canon O'Heron (Bangor, Wis./Bangor) dished out five assists to lead the Pointers.
Mark Nelson (Madison, Wis./Monona Grove) hit a three in the opening minute of play to begin the record-setting game.
Drew Fredrickson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) got in on the action with a three and Dodge hit his first of the game to keep UWSP in front at the 14:22 mark.
Dodge hit five more three over the next five-plus minutes and Tauber buried a three to give the Pointers their first double-digit lead. Junior
Koko Songolo (Madison, Wis./Memorial) scored his first point in a UWSP uniform and hit a three, the 13th of the half, to cap the first-half scoring for the Pointers.
The Beavers cut the lead to single digits early in the second half, but Dodge and Frederickson each had personal five-point runs for the Pointers.
Aaron Knez (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) hit his second three of the game to put the lead back to 12 and
Mark Nelson (Madison, Wis./Monona Grove) added another three to give UWSP a 68055 lead.

UWSP heads to St. Norbert next Saturday (Nov. 21) as part of the current three-game road swing. The Pointers and Green Knights tip-off at 7:00 p.m. in De Pere.
