Pointers Fall to Warhawks

WHITEWATER, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point softball team suffered a WIAC loss Wednesday, falling to UW-Whitewater 12-4 (6 innings). Game two was canceld due to weather and field conditions.

The Pointers (12-20, 3-8 WIAC) couldn't get things going in the top of the first while the Warhawks (24-10, 8-3 WIAC) used a leadoff single to get the bats going and advanced runners scoring one before the inning ended on a ground out to second.

The Pointers got on the board in the second scoring off a solo homerun by Jen Jacobson (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook), her first collegiate homerun, tying the game 1-1. The bottom of the second saw a turn for the worse for the Pointers. After their first batter flied out to left field, the Warhawks hit back to back home runs that would eventually lead to a 7-1 Warhawk lead.

The Pointers responded in the top of the third, led by a three run home run by Paige Kitzing (Mount Pleasant, WI/J.J. Case) that would cut the Warhawk lead to three. Amelia Heup (Milwaukee, WI/Lutheran) held stong in the bottom of the third striking out two and allowing only one hit to hold the score at 7-4.

The Pointers couldn't get the bats going in the fourth and left one stranded on base. The Warhawks once again found success at the plate and saw a three run homer clear the fence increasing their lead 10-4. The fifth and sixth innings brought little success for the Pointers at the plate as they were held scoreless while the Warhawks tacked on two more for a final score of 12-4.

Game two was called in the fourth inning due to the weather.
