27 Hits Lead to a Pointers Sweep Over Green Knights

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point softball team heated things up on a chilly Wednesday afternoon with two convincing wins over non-conference opponent St. Norbert College.

UW-Stevens Point 11 St. Norbert 3 (5 inn.)

Game one started with both teams going scoreless in the first inning but things quickly heated up for the Pointers. A leadoff single by Avery Kanyuh to start the second got the Pointers (12-19) base runners going. Jen Jacobson (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) was struck by a pitch before her and Kanyuh both stole bases advancing runners to second and third base. Cori Semler (Hartford, WI/Hartford Union) then drove one in with a single and Morgan Johnson (Combined Locks, WI/Kaukauna) followed with an RBI single of her own. Johnson then stole second and set up a 2 RBI double for Bailie Sheahan (Salem, WI/Wilmot Union) which would end the scoring for the Pointers in the bottom of the second.

The Pointers kept the aggressiveness at the plate going scoring three runs off three hits in the third and followed up with two more in the bottom of the fourth before the Green Knights (5-25) made a run. The top of the fifth St Norbert got the bats going scoring three runs off three hits in the inning. The Pointers added two more of their own at the bottom of the fifth securing the win with a final score of 11-3.

Cori Semler (Hartford, WI/Hartford Union) continued her success at the plate leading off with a single to start the second. Paige Allen (South Elgin, IL/South Elgin) and Kelsey Roshell (Thorp, WI/Thorp) both followed with singles of their own before Senior Bailey Sheahan drove in two runs with a single up the middle. Dana Gertschen (Marathon, WI/Marathon) kept the streak alive for the Pointers with a single of her own setting up a 2 RBI double for Alyssa Cooper (Little Suamico, WI/Bay Port).
