STEVENS POINT, Wis. –
Boone Roycraft (Omro, WI/Winneconne),
Logan Hermsen (Amherst Junction, WI/Amherst), and
Bo Seibel (Cambellsport, WI/Kewaskum) picked up wins for the No. 24 Stevens Point wrestling team in a 24-12 loss to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foe No. 5 UW-La Crosse on Friday evening at Berg Gymnasium.
The Eagles built an early advantage with No. 4 Ryan Weinmann upsetting No. 2
Ben Vosters (Hatley, WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood) in an 8-4 win. La Crosse extened its lead to 15-0 with a UW-Stevens Point forfeit at 141 pounds.
Roycraft and Hermsen wrestled back-to-back wins for the Pointers. Roycraft recorded a 6-3 decision over Austin Schoen at 157 pounds, while Hermsen held on for an 8-4 victory over Derek Weinmann at 165 pounds for UW-Stevens Point (5-5, 3-1 WIAC).
In the only other victory of the night for UWSP, Seibel pinned Zach Tooley at 2:35 in the first period wrestling at 197 pounds.
Roycraft improved his record to 16-9, Hermsen improved to 18-5 and Seibel improved to 21-5 for the Pointers.
This was the first conference loss of the season for the formerly league-leading Pointers.
