Lester’s OT winner sends @UWSPWhockey to WIAC title game

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Emily Lester (Eau Claire, WI/Memorial)'s overtime game-winner gave UW-Stevens Point the 2-1 victory over UW-Superior and sent the Pointers to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) O'Brien Cup championship game for the third straight season.

Box Score

With just :42 seconds remaining, Lester took advantage of a Superior turnover deep in their zone while the Yellowjackets were attempting to pull their goaltender for the extra attacker and pushed in the game-winner, giving UWSP the win.

After a scoreless first period, Superior struck first, scoring just 17 seconds into the second frame on the power play when Lynne Larson scored on a Pamela McLeod assist.

Lexi Englund (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake) responded just 39 seconds later off a feed from Lester and Betsy Anderson (Farmington, MN/Farmington), knotting the score at 1-1.

Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) tallied 25 saves on the evening while Singer stopped 31 of 33 shots on target for the Pointers.

UW-Stevens Point (17-7-3) and UW-River Falls (20-5-2) will now have faced each other in the league's postseason title game all three years of the tournament's existence, with the Falcons coming away with two victories.
