ABOUT UW-STEVENS POINT | Home | Roster | Schedule | Stats

In a game that featured 1,222 yards of combined offense and 117 points, UW-Stevens Point fell 65-52 to Albion on the road in its season-opener on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium in Albion, Mich. The Pointers led 45-44 with 11:21 remaining after a touchdown pass from Kyle Larson (Clayton, WI/Clayton) to Logan Taylor (Wausau, WI/Wausau East) but the Britons responded with a 90-yard scoring drive and scored the next 21 points to pull away late.

The 117 combined points were the most in a game in school history.

The Pointers racked up 540 yards of total offense, the team's most since the 2013 season opener when UWSP gained 582 yards against Rockford on Sept. 7, 2013. The 52 points were UW-Stevens Point's most since a 55-14 win at Dubuque on Sept. 15, 2012.

Kyle Larson (Clayton, WI/Clayton) set career-highs in passing yards (389) and touchdowns (5) in the opener. Larson's previous career-high was 302 yards against No. 5 North Central on Sept. 27, 2014 and he had never thrown more than three touchdowns in a collegiate game. Through two weeks, the junior ranks fourth in the nation in passing yards per game (389.0), although he has played just the one game.

De'Juan Wright posted his fourth-career 100-yard game, rushing 18 times for 119 yards and two touchdowns. It was Wright's second-career game with two rushing touchdowns.

UW-Stevens Point is coming off a bye week following the long trip to Albion.

ABOUT COE | Home | Roster | Schedule | Stats

Coe has opened its season by splitting a pair of home games. The Kohawks got their first win of the season last week, defeating Cornell (Iowa) 50-3 at home. Coe lost 52-14 to No. 7 Wheaton (Ill.) in its season-opener on Sept. 5. This week, the Kohawks are taking to the road for the first time this season.

In the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi River, Coe defeated Cornell for the 16th consecutive time on Sept. 12 at Clark Field. The Kohawks amassed 729 yards of total offense, the third-most in school history, in the game and outgained the Rams 729-198 in the game.

Senior quarterback Josh Rekers was 24-of-32 for 377 yards and threw two touchdowns and one interception. The 377 yards were five shy of his career-high and are the fifth-highest total in single-game program records. Coe's 414 passing yards as a team was the team's fourth-highest total ever.

In Coe's first game of the season, the Kohawks struck first but seventh-ranked Wheaton (Ill.) scored the next 45 points to run away with a 52-14 win on Sept. 5. The Kohawks were just 5-for-17 on third down and turned the ball over four times in the loss.

Coe leads the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) in scoring offense (32.0 ppg) and ranks second in total offense (533.0 ypg).

After rushing for a 14-yard touchdown in the second quarter, the freshman had a 29-yard score late in the third quarter and a 58-yard run early in the fourth.

PINK GAME

UW-Stevens Point has won its Pink Game in each of the last two seasons. Last season, the Pointers upset No. 5 North Central (Ill.) 34-27 on Sept. 27, 2014 for the team's first win over a top-10 team since Oct. 25, 2008 (No. 2 UW-Whitewater). FAVORITE TARGETS

Both Larson and Rekers have identified go-to senior receivers in Sosinsky and Elijah Phillips, who are each averaging over 100 yards receiving a game.

Matt Sosinsky (Princeton, WI/Princeton) caught nine passes for a career-high 195 yards and three touchdowns in UWSP's season-opener. The three-touchdown game was the first of Sosinsky's UW-Stevens Point career and his 195 yards were the most by a UWSP player since Theo Maglio's 201 yards versus UW-La Crosse on Sept. 29. After two weeks of games, the senior ranks third in the country in receiving yards per game (195.0).

Phillips has nearly matched his receiving totals from last season after just two games. He caught 21 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns in 2014 but has already made 18 receptions for 218 yards and a score this season.
