Men's basketball announces 2015-16 schedule

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The 2015 national champion UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team has announced its schedule for the 2015-16 season, as the Pointers will again face one of the most difficult schedules in Division III basketball.

Full Schedule

Coming off the program's fourth national championship, all in the last 12 seasons, UW-Stevens Point's 25-game schedule features games against six teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season. The 18 opponents the Pointers will face in 2015-16 combined for a .611 winning percentage last season (294-187), including a .679 winning percentage (201-95) for non-conference opposition.

The Pointers open their season on Nov. 14 with a trip to former Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foe UW-Superior, which is now a non-conference game following the Yellowjackets' move to the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).

UW-Stevens Point's home opener is Nov. 18 against St. Olaf, which is coming off of back-to-back NCAA tournament bids including making the Sweet 16 last season. This begins a stretch of three consecutive home games. The Pointers then face perennial Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champions, Hope, for the third season in a row.

UW-Stevens Point will host St. Norbert on Nov 24. for the first time in the regular season since 1992. The Pointers have played the Green Knights more than any non-conference opponent and hold a 53-30 lead in the series that dates back to 1923. St. Norbert has won the Midwest Conference three years in a row and had 15 consecutive wins entering the NCAA Tournament last season.

In early December, the Pointers travel to Illinois for a national championship game rematch with Augustana on Dec. 5 and a game at North Central on Dec. 9. The month of December also features a home game against regional and national power St. Thomas on Dec. 15. The Pointers and Tommies have met seven times since 2009 and both teams have been ranked in the top 25 each time.

Over break, UW-Stevens Point makes a trip to Phoeniz, Ariz. where UWSP will face Hamilton and Keene State for the first times in program history on Dec. 29-30. The Green Bay Packers face the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, Ariz. at 3:25 Central Time on Sunday, Dec. 27.

UW-Stevens Point begins WIAC play at UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 6 before travelling to UW-Whitewater on Jan. 9. The Pointers' first home conference game is against UW-Platteville on Jan. 13 and a visit by the Warhawks to Quandt Fieldhouse on Feb. 3 highlights UWSP's home conference games.

In total, UW-Stevens Point will play 12 times in front of its home crowd at Quandt Fieldhouse, where the Pointers are 245-35 (.875) since 1997. The Pointers ranked fifth in the country in attendance last season, averaging 1,437 fans per home game, a figure that outdrew 273 Division-II and 81 Division-I programs. UW-Stevens Point has ranked in the top eight nationally and led the WIAC in attendance for 14 consecutive years.

UW-Stevens Point has made the NCAA Tournament for nine consecutive years and in 11 of the last 12 seasons. That streak is matched only by St. Thomas.

Season tickets for the 2015-16 season are available now at the UWSP Information and Ticket Office, located inside the Dreyfus University Center, or by calling 715-346-4100.
