Men's basketball to host NCAA Tournament sectional

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – For the fifth time in 10 seasons, UW-Stevens Point will be hosting the sectional rounds of the NCAA Tournament, as Bennett Court at Quandt Fieldhouse will play home to UWSP, Emory, Northwestern (Minn.) and East Texas Baptist on March 13-14.
 
The Round of 16 games on Friday, March 13 will feature matchups between Northwestern (Minn.) and East Texas Baptist at 5 p.m., followed by UW-Stevens Point and Emory at 8 p.m . The winners of those games will then play the following night for a spot in the Final Four in Salem, Va. on Saturday, March 14 at 7 p.m.
 
UW-Stevens Point and Emory will meet in the Round of 16 for the second-straight season after the Eagles knocked off the Pointers 76-73 in overtime last season at Bennett Court. The Pointers defeated both Concordia (Wis.) 88-56 and Illinois Wesleyan 70-53 in the first two rounds, while the Eagles topped Spalding 88-59 and edged Whitworth 85-84 in the final seconds.
 
Northwestern (Minn.) upset St. Thomas (Minn.) 71-70 in the first round on a three-pointer at the buzzer and then defeated Elmhurst 84-75 in the first two rounds at St. Norbert. East Texas Baptist advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating Hendrix 75-59 and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 80-75 on its home court in the first two rounds. Both the Eagles and Tigers are in the Round of 16 for the first time ever.
