STEVENS POINT, Wis. – After splitting with a pair of top-25 teams at home this past week, the ninth-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team hosts St. Norbert for the first time in the regular season since 1992 on Tuesday evening at Bennett Court at Quandt Fieldhouse.

Zack Goedeke (Valders, WI/Valders) was not enough for UW-Stevens Point in a 68-56 loss to No. 16 Hope on Saturday evening at Bennett Court at Quandt Fieldhouse. The sophomore came off the bench to shoot 8-for-11 from the field to easily surpass his previous career-high six points.Hope held UW-Stevens Point to 38.3 percent shooting from the field and nine field goals in each half in the loss. The Flying Dutchmen also held a 40-25 advantage in rebounding in the game and led from start to finish, as nine Hope players scored at least nine points in the game.

Ethan Bublitz (Jackson, WI/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and
Stephen Pelkofer (Hales Corner, WI/Whitnall) combined for 56 points as the Pointers held off a second-half rally by No. 15 St. Olaf to defeat the Oles 68-65. Bublitz made five three-pointers on his way to a career-high 20 points, McGann posted his first-career double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds and Pelkofer added 17 points and seven assists.UW-Stevens Point held a 13-point lead at the break after shooting 64.0 percent but St. Olaf cut the deficit to just two with 5:25 to go. The Oles got as close as one with 1:57 remaining but Pelkofer nailed a jumper to make it 68-65 with 1:29 to play and the score remained that way after St. Olaf's Riley Aeikens missed a three-pointer from the top of the key at the buzzer.
HOME, SWEET HOMEUW-Stevens Point is 246-36 (.872) at Bennett Court at Quandt Fieldhouse since the start of the 1997-98 season, including a mark of 178-18 (.908) since 2002-03.
The loss to St. Olaf on Wednesday evening was just the second Pointers' loss at home in the month of November since the 1996-97 season. UW-Stevens Point is 41-2 at home in the month of November over that span.
UWSP IN NOVEMBERSince 2006-07, UW-Stevens Point is 35-4 (.900) in games played in the month of November. Prior to last season, the Pointers had won 30 of their last 31 games in November since the start of the 2006-07 season.
Going back even farther, the Pointers have won 76 of their last 82 games in November since the start of the 1996-97 season for a winning percentage of .927.
LEADING AT THE HALFSince the start of the 2013-14 season, UW-Stevens Point has led at halftime in 48 of 66 games and has won 46 of those 48 games. Over that stretch, the Pointers are 11-4 when trailing at halftime and 0-3 when tied at the break.
SCORING 70UW-Stevens Point is 34-2 (.944) when scoring at least 70 points dating back to the start of the 2013-14 season. The Pointers are 23-7 (.767) over that span when scoring fewer than 70 points. UW-Stevens Point has yet to score 70 points in a game this season but scored 68 and 69 points in its two wins.
STEPPING UPAfter scoring in double figures nine times in 84 games in his first three seasons, McGann has scored in double figures in each of the team's first three games. The senior set a career-high in scoring with 18 points in the opener and then broke that mark the next time out with 19 points in the win over St. Olaf on Wednesday. McGann leads the Pointers in scoring at 17.3 points per game this season.
ABOUT ST. NORBERT | HOME | ROSTER | SCHEDULE | STATSIn its only game of the season so far, St. Norbert defeated No. 23 UW-Oshkosh 68-62 in the season opener for both teams back on Monday, Nov. 16 at Schuldes Sports Center. The win was the eighth-straight in the series for St. Norbert and improved the Green Knights to 50-4 in their last 54 games. It was also St. Norbert's sixth win in its last eight games against Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opposition since the 2012-13 season.
After St. Norbert led 58-55 with 3:13 remaining, neither team scored for over two minutes until a Mitchell Reinthaler layup gave the Green Knights a five-point lead with 55 seconds to go. The Titans missed their next two shots and St. Norbert shot 8-for-10 at the free-throw line in the final minute to seal the win. Three players scored in double figures for St. Norbert in the win, led by Reinthaler's double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. The sophomore shot 5-for-9 from the field and 9-for-12 from the free-throw line in the win. D.J. DeValk added 18 points, while Terrence Garner contributed 11 for St. Norbert.
St. Norbert was the preseason pick to win the Midwest Conference (MWC) in 2015-16. The Green Knights have won the MWC in each of the last three seasons and five of the last six years. St. Norbert has won at least 20 games five times in the last six seasons and has won its last 44 games in MWC play.
St. Norbert received seven of 11 first-place votes in the MWC preseason coaches' poll. The Green Knights earned 97 points in the poll, four ahead of Monmouth's 93. Monmouth received three first-place votes, while Ripon gathered one.
St. Norbert made its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last six seasons in 2014-15, falling on its home court 110-98 in the first round to Elmhurst in triple overtime. The Green Knights finished the season 24-2, including a perfect 18-0 mark in conference play, and won the MWC Tournament with double-digit wins over Ripon and Grinnell.
The Green Knights graduated their top-three scorers from last season in Andrew Schwoerer, Austin Elliott and Steven Hofacker, who combined to score 52.5 percent of SNC's points in 2014-15. St. Norbert was ranked as high as No. 3 in the country, the highest in program history, and became the first MWC men's basketball team to post back-to-back undefeated conference seasons since 1951.
THE COACHESBob Semling is in his 11th season as the head coach at UW-Stevens Point and has won four national championships with the Pointers. He led the Pointers to the 2010 and 2015 national championships as a head coach and was an assistant on the back-to-back national title teams of 2004 and 2005. Semling has a career record of 243-55 (.816), including a 134-26 mark in WIAC play. His .818 career winning percentage entering this season was the highest among active NCAA Division III coaches and ranks fourth all-time at all divisions among coaches with a minimum of 10 seasons as head coach. He is a two-time D3hoops.com and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) National Coach of the Year (2010 and 2015) and a five-time WIAC Coach of the Year.
The 2015-16 season is Gary Grzesk's 10th as the head coach at St. Norbert, where he has a career record of 170-58 (.746). Grzesk has led the Green Knights to five 20-win seasons and five NCAA Tournament appearances after St. Norbert had two 20-win seasons in 86 seasons prior to his arrival. He has a career record of 132-36 in MWC play. Grzesk was the head coach at Lakeland from 2004-06 and compiled a 51-31 record while leading the Muskies, including an appearance in the 2004 NCAA Tournament. A 1996 graduate of UW-Green Bay, Grzesk was a four-year letterwinner for the Phoenix and helped his teams to three NCAA Tournament appearances. He later spent the 2002-03 season as an assistant at UW-Green Bay and also spent six seasons as an assistant at Youngstown State.
SERIES NOTESUW-Stevens Point holds a 53-30 advantage in the all-time series with St. Norbert, which dates all the way back to 1923. The Pointers have won each of the last 10 meetings since the Green Knights won 50-46 in Stevens Point on Dec. 1, 1980.
This is the first regular-season meeting between the two schools since 1992. The teams last met in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament with UW-Stevens Point securing a 70-49 victory in Mequon.
