MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Senior guard
Stephen Pelkofer (Hales Corner, WI/Whitnall) of the No. 9 UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team was named a D3hoops.com Third Team Preseason All-American, as the 2015-16 D3hoops.com preseason men's All-America team was announced on Monday.
Full All-America TeamsPelkofer was the only Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) player to be named a preseason All-American by D3hoops.com and is the third UW-Stevens Point player to earn the honor in the last five seasons.
Tyler Tillema was a second team choice in 2012-13 and
Jared Jenkins was named to the third team in 2011-12.
Last season, Pelkofer was an Honorable Mention All-WIAC selection after leading the conference in minutes per game (34.5) and ranking 14th in the league in scoring (11.6 ppg). In his junior season, Pelkofer led the Pointers in rebounding (4.4 rpg) and was in the WIAC's top 10 in field-goal percentage (.509), three-point field-goal percentage (.452) and steals (1.4 spg). He scored in double figures in 19 of the 28 games he played in as the Pointers won their fourth national championship in 12 seasons.
The D3hoops.com preseason All-America team is chosen from previous years' All-American and All-Region nominations.
Pelkofer and No. 9 UW-Stevens Point begin their season at UW-Superior on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. The Pointers will host their annual Purple/Gold Game, including a ring ceremony for last season's national title, on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at Quandt Fieldhouse.
