Coming off a 28-2 season that included the program's 28th Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) title and an eighth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth in 2013-14, head coach
Bob Semling and the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team has announced a two-player recruiting class that will join the Pointers program in 2014-15.
The class consists of freshmen
Luke Zuiker (Marshfield, WI/Marshfield), from Marshfield, and
Zack Goedeke (Valders, WI/Valders), from Valders. "What this class may lack in quantity, it more than makes up for in quality," Semling said of the class. "Both of these young men will significantly contribute to the future of Pointers basketball."
Zuiker, a six-foot-four guard, comes to UW-Stevens Point from Marshfield High School, where he averaged 16.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as a senior. At Marshfield, Zuiker played for his father Bill Zuiker, a UWSP alumni and basketball standout, and the younger Zuiker will be the fourth Zuiker to play in the pointers program. "I am thrilled to have Lucas playing for the Pointers," the elder Zuiker said. "I think the Pointers have a potentially special player in Luke. He has a well-rounded game on both ends of the floor, is an excellent teammate and has the mental makeup to transition well from high school to the college game."
Â
Zack Goedeke (Valders, WI/Valders), at six-foot-seven, is primed to play a key role in the coming years at UWSP. With a lean, yet muscular build, Goedeke comes to the Pointers from Valders High School, where he nearly averaged a double-double with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks per game. "Zack is an all-around solid basketball player," said Valders head coach
Trevor Schwoerer. "He can affect the game on both offense and defense and is a hard-working kid that has made himself into a good athlete."
