Feyereisen drafted by Cleveland in 16th round of MLB Draft

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point junior pitcher JP Feyereisen (River Falls, WI/River Falls) was drafted in the 16th round, 488th overall, by the Cleveland Indians in the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft on Saturday.

Feyereisen is just the third UW-Stevens Point player to be drafted as a junior (Cody Koback-2011, Jordan Zimmermann-2007) and is the fifth player from the program to be signed in the last seven years. The junior was the second Division III prospect to be taken in this year's draft.
 
Feyereisen is the ninth UW-Stevens Point player to be taken in the MLB Draft and the first since centerfielder Cody Koback was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 10th round of the 2011 draft.
 
Feyereisen entered the draft ranked as the 464th-best prospect according to Baseball America. In three years at UW-Stevens Point, the righthander compiled a 15-5 record in 36 appearances, including 26 starts. Feyereisen has a career ERA of 3.05 and held opposing hitters to a .218 batting average. In 180.0 innings, he struck out 141 hitters.
 
As a junior this season, Feyereisen made eight starts among his 12 appearances. He finished the year with a 5-3 record with a 3.75 ERA. The righthander also recorded two of his three career saves at the NCAA McMinnville Regional. Feyereisen tossed two shutouts in his junior season, including a seven-inning one-hitter against UW-Platteville on April 26. Over 62.1 innings, opponents managed just 47 hits and a .202 batting average off Feyereisen.
 
In his sophomore season, Feyereisen posted a career-best 7-2 record with an ERA of 2.69. He also threw a career-high 77.0 innings, as 12 of his 13 appearances were starts in 2013. Feyereisen limited hitters to a .229 batting average and struck out a career-high 59 batters. On April 27, he tossed seven shutout innings of five-hit ball at UW-Superior. At the Division III World Series, Feyereisen earned a win against Kean on May 25 by allowing two earned runs in seven innings.
 
Feyereisen appeared in 11 games, including six starts, and was 3-0 as a freshman in 2012. He struck out 37 batters in 40.2 innings and opponents hit .222 off the righthander. One of Feyereisen's three wins came against UW-Superior on April 14, when he fanned eight and allowed just one run in six innings.
