Men's basketball clinches WIAC title outright with 19-point win at UW-Oshkosh

Box Score OSHKOSH, Wis. – Four players scored in double figures as the top-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team clinched the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season title with a 70-51 win over UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday night at Kolf Sports Center.

Trevor Hass (New London, WI/New London/Augustana (SD)) led all scorers with 16 points, including going 4-for-7 from behind the arc, and grabbed nine rebounds for the Pointers (23-1, 14-1 WIAC). Tyler Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph) scored 13 and Joe Ritchay (Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln) added 11, while Clayton Heuer (Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln/UW-Green Bay) narrowly missed out on his second straight double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

The regular season title is 10th in the last 15 years and the league-leading 28th in program history for UWSP. The Pointers will have home-court advantage throughout the upcoming WIAC playoffs.

UW-Oshkosh (11-13, 6-9 WIAC) was led in scoring by Alex Olson, who had 12 points on 5-for-12 shooting. The Pointers held the Titans to 34.0 percent shooting in the game, including just 26.7 percent (4-for-15) from three-point range.

UW-Stevens Point opened the game by making seven of its first nine shots to take a 17-5 lead in the first six minutes. The Pointers made five straight field goals during the run and Tillema, Ritchay and Hass each connected on three-pointers early on, as UWSP made five of its seven threes in the first half.

The closest the Titans got the remainder of the first half was nine points on three occasions. The Pointers built a 17-point lead late in the half and took a 40-25 lead into the break after shooting 59.3 percent in the opening half.

UWSP maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half and led by as many as 21 in the final minute of the game. The Pointers never trailed in the game and led by double digits for the final 25:57 of the game.

UW-Stevens Point cooled off to 42.9 percent in the second half but finished at 50.9 percent for the game. The Pointers outrebounded the Titans 38-11 and scored 11 of their 13 second-chance points in the second half. UWSP committed just eight turnovers in the game.

UW-Stevens Point closes out its regular season schedule on Saturday by hosting UW-Stout for Senior Night. Tip-off between the Pointers and Blue Devils is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bennett Court at Quandt Fieldhouse.
