WHITEWATER, Wis. –
Matt Sosinsky (Princeton, WI/Princeton) had a career-high 170 yards for his fifth 100-yard receiving game of the season but the UW-Stevens Point football team was defeated 49-17 by No. 1 UW-Whitewater on Saturday afternoon at Perkins Stadium.

Cody Nuernberg (Kewaskum, WI/Kewaskum) at the 11:09 mark of the second quarter for UW-Stevens Point (6-3, 3-3 WIAC). The Pointers racked up 408 yards of offense in the game, the most UW-Whitewater (9-0, 6-0 WIAC) has allowed all season by 93 yards.
UW-Stevens Point trailed 21-10 at halftime but the Warhawks outscored the Pointers 28-7 in the second half. UW-Whitewater finished with 531 yards of offense, 237 on the ground and 294 through the air.
Nuernberg had a career-high 308 yards passing and completed 27-of-47 passes with one interception. Ten UWSP players caught at least one pass in the game, led by Sosinsky's big day.
UWW quarterback Matt Behrendt was 21-of-32 for 294 yards and four touchdowns, including two to Justin Howard, who caught eight balls for 151 yards. UWSP's
Deion Jones (Racine, WI/Horlick) recorded the second interception of the season off a Behrendt pass, the sixth pick of the season for the sophomore.
A four-yard touchdown by
Jake Menzel (Oostburg, WI/Oostburg) accounted for the second UW-Stevens Point touchdown in the game with 5:43 remaining in the game. Menzel's run capped a 10-play, 66-yard drive. The 17 points scored by the Pointers are the most given up by the Warhawks this season.
Dennis Moore ran for 102 yards for UW-Whitewater, while Jordan Ratliffe ran for 58 and two touchdowns.
UW-Stevens Point hosts UW-Stout for Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. at Community Stadium at Goerke Park.
