STEVENS POINT, Wis. - Down 20-3 late against NCAA Division II UW-Parkside, the Pointers posted a late push thanks to pins at 184 and 197 to come within five, but the Rangers closed out the match with a pin of their own to secure the 26-15 victory Wednesday evening in Berg Gym.

Ronzel Darling took an early 4-1 lead with a pair of takedowns in the opening period. In the second, Darling extended his lead thanks to an escape and another takedown, leading 7-1 after two. In the third, Darling recorded two more takedowns and added a point for an edge in riding time to secure the major decision. (13-3)

Alex Heiden (Stratford, WI/Stratford) recorded the first points of the match in the final minute of the first period and, after a reversal by Her, took a 3-2 edge with an escape. Her responded with a reversal late in the second, but an escape by Heiden knotted the match at 4-4. In the third, Her used a two-point near fall to take a lead and added another two with a late takedown to secure the 8-5 win.

Scoreless through two periods, an escape by Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano) to start the second gave him the 1-0 lead. Kust added a takedown to build his lead to 3-0. Kust's lead pushed to 4-0 with a point for stalling and his three-plus minutes of riding time made the final 5-0, earning the Pointers their first team points of the night.

An escape by Daniel Argueta in the second period gave him the 1-0 lead. A takedown in the third gave Argueta a 3-0 advantage. A late escape was not enough for Austin Woracheck, as riding time gave Argueta a 4-1 victory.

An early takedown gave John Roycraft (Omro, WI/Winneconne) an early edge, 2-0. Tied 3-3 late in the first, Brandt Welcher took a 5-3 lead by Roycraft used a late escape to cut the deficit to one, 5-4. In the second, Roycraft tied things up with an escape. An escape by Welcher in the third gave Parkside the edge. A late flurry by Roycraft was not enough as Welcher came away with the 6-5 victory.

A takedown in the first and another in the second, combined with four near fall points gave Nick Fishback an 8-0 lead after two. An escape to start the third and another takedown made the score 11-0 as Fishback pulled away for the 16-3 victory.

Cody Nielsen (Oconto Falls, WI/Oconto Falls) tallied an early takedown to take a 2-0 edge. An escape by Brett Scoles cut Nielsen's lead in half, 2-1. After an escape by Nielsen early in the second, Scoles tallied a late takedown in to tie the score at 3-3. An escape by Scoles to start the third gave him the 4-3 edge and a late takedown gave him the 6-3 victory.

Taylor Beaman (St. Paul Park, MN/Henry Sibley) took control early with a takedown and never let up, pinning Younk in 1:06.

Kane Seubert (Marshfield, WI/Marshfield) jumped out to the early 5-1 lead, nearly pinning Jake Armellani early in the first period, before finishing with a pin in 2:42.

Matt Halverson took command early and never let up, defeating Luke Hoffmann (Appleton, WI/North) by pin at 1:48.

The Pointers (1-2) return to action on Saturday, NOv. 22 at the Concordia (Wis.) Open in Mequon, Wis. Action gets underway at 9 a.m. The Pointers open Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) action next Tuesday, Nov. 25, hosting UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m.
