STEVENS POINT, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point has announced the Subway Freshman Athletes of the Year, with
Alex Brooks (Grand Rapids, MI/),
Jordan Koranda (Marshfield, WI/Marshfield),
Josie Johnson (Waunakee, WI/Waunakee) and
Kadie Flynn (Appleton, WI/North) each earning accolades.
Brooks appeared in all 26 games for the men's hockey team. He was an Honorable Mention All-Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) selection, First Team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) selection, and was named to the NCHA All-Rookie Team.
Brooks was voted the team's Rookie of the Year after tallying three goals and 10 assists.
Koranda led the wrestling team with 21 pins, which ranked second in NCAA Division III. He finished the season with a 30-11 record and was voted the team's Freshman of the Year.
Johnson scored four goals and recorded nine assists for the women's hockey team. She was named to the NCHA All-Rookie Team, and was one of just two defensemen from 11 teams to make the All-Rookie Team.
Flynn was the WIAC Outdoor champion in the discus with a throw of 42.38 meters (139' 3/4”), which ranked 20th in the NCAA and qualified her for national competition. Flynn finished 14th at the NCAA Division III 2013 Outdoor Track & Field Championships and was named the team MVP at the event.
Flynn placed 12th in the shot put at both the WIAC Outdoor and Indoor Championships.
