Weekend promotions: This weekend is Parents Weekend for UW-Stevens Point and the parents will be recognized at Saturday night's game. Area youth hockey players will take to the ice during the first intermission Friday evening. Also on Saturday, The Cupboard will be collecting canned food items at K.B. Willett Arena.

Gustavus Adolphus Head Coach Brett Petersen: The Gusties of Gustavus Adolphus are led by no rookie as Brett Peterson enters his 14th season as head coach of the men's hockey team. During his tenure, Peterson has accumulated a 182-141-28 overall record, including a 17-8-3 mark last season.

Game One

Gustavus Adolphus:
Gustavus went 1-1 at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Showcase last weekend. The Gusties defeated Bethel 2-1 on Friday and lost 5-3 to St. Thomas on Saturday. Last season, GAC was 17-8-3 overall and 9-5-2 in the MIAC.

Impressive season opener: This past weekend was an eye opener for many as UW-Stevens Point cruised past the Lions of Finlandia in a two-game home stand, including a 6-1 victory on Friday and an impressive 11-0 victory on Saturday. Seventeen UW-Stevens Point players recorded at least one point and 11 Pointers had multiple points, led by Garrett Ladd (Fenton, MI/Fenton)'s four goals.

Getting stingy on D:  The Pointers defense made life difficult for Finlandia over the weekend allowing 20 shots on goal over the two games. UWSP allowed 11 shots on goal in the first game and nine shots on goal in Saturday's shutout.

Moving up the rankings:   After the opening weekend sweep, UW-Stevens Point moved up three spots to tenth in both the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com rankings.

Series: UW-Stevens Point and Gustavus will meet for the 11th time on Friday night. The Gusties hold a slender 5-4-1 edge in the series. The Pointers won last season's meeting 3-2 in St. Peter.

Game Two

St. Olaf Head Coach Sean Goldsworthy: Sean Goldsworthy is in his 17th season at the helm of the Oles men's hockey team. Goldsworthy has been worthy as he has led the Oles to four straight MIAC Playoff berths from 2003-04 to 2006-07. Goldsworthy was named the MIAC's Coach of the Year in 2009 after leading St. Olaf to their first regular season MIAC title since 1938-39.

St. Olaf: Last season, St. Olaf was 10-14-2 overall and 9-7-0 record in the MIAC, which placed them fifth in the conference. The Oles finished last year's campaign losing six straight contests.

Oles open 0-2: St. Olaf dropped its first two games at the MIAC Showcase last weekend. The Oles lost to Augsburg College 3-1 and Saint Mary's University 3-2.

All-time series: UWSP leads the all-time series with St. Olaf 11-3-0. Last season, five different players scored for the Pointers in a 5-2 win over St. Olaf at home on Jan. 4.

Up Next: The Pointers travel to Minnesota to face two more MIAC teams in St. Thomas and St. Mary's next weekend. The Tommies went 2-0 at the MIAC Showcase, while the Cardinals split their two games at the event.
