Women’s basketball wins overtime thriller over Yellowjackets

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team outscored UW-Superior 20-9 in overtime to seal the 89-78 victory Saturday evening.

The Yellowjackets dominated for a majority of the first half and trailed the Pointers for a total of two minutes. Superior led by as many as eight in the half and took a 35-29 lead into halftime.
 
Superior continued to dominate the second half, building a lead of as many as 11, until Brooke Allen (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) rolled in a layup knotting the game at 66-66.
 
The Pointers capitalized on three straight free throws to take a three-point lead with 12 second left. Superior came right back and sank a three-pointer as time expired to send the game into overtime.
 
In overtime, UWSP shot 14-for-16 from the charity stripe and scored 10 points off turnovers to secure the win.
 
Five different Pointers reached double figures in scoring. Leading the way was Sam Barber (Schofield, WI/D.C. Everest/Winona St.) posting 27 points, 23 of which came in the second half and overtime.
 
Alyssa Olp (Brillion, WI/Brillion) tallied a season-high 13 points as she went 9-for-10 from the free-throw line. Myranda Tyler (Grafton, WI/Grafton) also tallied 13 points in the win to go along with six rebounds and five assists.
 
Allen and Josi Schultz (Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) recorded 11 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Sally Linzmeier led the way for the Yellowjackets posting 21 points and pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds.
 
UWSP (16-4, 8-3 WIAC) returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 30 as it hosts UW-Platteville. Action set for 7 p.m. in Berg Gym.
