Finalists announced for head football coaching search

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point announced three finalists for the head football coach position.

The candidates will visit campus for personal interviews next week:

Thomas Journell – Monday, May 7
Allen Curtiss – Tuesday, May 8
Mike Kelly – Monday, May 21

There will be an open forum with each candidate. Dates and times will be announced.

Journell has been a member of the Pointers coaching staff since 2008, serving as the team's defensive coordinator the past four seasons. Journell recently served as the teams interim head coach. Prior to UW-Stevens Point, Journell spent six seasons as the head coach at Elmhurst College in Illinois and was also an assistant head coach at UW-River Falls for 15 seasons.

Curtiss has been the defensive line coach, special teams coordinator and running backs coach at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich., for the past four seasons. Prior to Ferris State, Curtiss also served as the defensive coordinator at Bluffton University in Ohio and also coached football at Olivet College, Bowling Green State and Kalamazoo.

Kelly, most recently served as the head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League from 2008-09. Prior coaching at Winnipeg, Kelly served as a receivers coach for the Edmonton Eskimos. He also spent time with the Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles and Orlando Rage (XFL) serving in various football operations and coaching roles. Kelly also spent time as the head coach at Valdosta State University in Georgia from 1997-99.
