STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The 27th-ranked UW-Stevens Point wrestling team tallied victories at 174 pounds, 141 pounds and 157 pounds on Friday evening, but it was not enough as the ninth-ranked Warhawks of UW-Whitewater pulled in front early to earn the 26-10 conference victory.

After a 4-1 victory at 165 pounds for UW-Whitewater, Ryan Conat (New London, WI/New London) put the pointers back into the match with a 7-3 victory at 174 pounds, knotting the score at 3-3.

From there, the Warhawks tallied victories at 184, 197, 285, 125 and 133 to take a commanding 20-3 lead.

The Pointers responded with a 6-1 victory at 141 pounds by Jordan Kust (Clintonville, WI/Shawano) to pull within striking distance, 20-6.

Jamey Simmons (Abbotsford, WI/Abbotsford) made his collegiate debut at 149 pounds for the Pointers, but suffered a pinfall at 6:43 to Whitewater's Cade Sarbacher.

The Pointers closed out the dual with a win from Ben Strobel (Neenah, WI/Neenah), who took a 7-1 lead after two and battled his way to a 13-1 win over Whitewater's Kegan Arthur.

UW-Stevens Point (7-13, 1-2 WIAC) next hosts league-leading UW-La Crosse on Friday, Feb. 10 in a 7 p.m. match-up from Berg Gym in Stevens Point.
