STEVENS POINT, Wis. – On Senior Day, forward
Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) tallied her 100th career point to help the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team tally a 2-1 victory over visiting Concordia (Wis.) at Ice Hawks Arena.
It was junior
Brooke Hanson (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove) who started the scoring for the Pointers on Saturday afternoon, scoring just 23 seconds into the contest off
Cassandra Salmen (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) and Marvin assists, that gave UWSP the early advantage.
Just over a minute later, Marvin pushed past UWSP's second goal of the game off an
Ariel Novak (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) assist, giving her 100 career points and the Pointers a 2-0 advantage.
In the second period, the visiting Falcons notched their only goal of the game at the 5:43 mark, scoring on the power play, pulling the CUW to within one.
The rest of the way, freshman
Janna Beilke-Skoug (Madison, WI/East) turned away every CUW shot on target with the help of the defense in front of her, as the Pointers secured the victory. Beilke-Skoug finished the game with 26 saves while CUW's Jennifer DeGeorge tallied 19 saves.
The win gives UWSP (12-11-2, 11-8-1 NCHA) the No. 6 seed in the upcoming
O'Brien Cup Playoffs. The seed means the Pointers will travel to third-seeded Adrian College (Mich.) for a two-game quarterfinal series next weekend. Dates and times of those match-ups is still to be determined.
