MADISON, Wis.--The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) announced the All-Time Football Team that will be recognized in conjunction with the conference's upcoming Centennial Celebration.
Eight UW-Stevens Point players made the prestigious list including Kirk Baumgartner, Chuck Braun, Reed Giordana,
Jared Jenkins, Scott Krause, Clint Kriewaldt, Barry Rose and Randy Simpson.
“This is a great honor for the Pointer football program and really shows the tradition that Monty Charles [former UWSP head coach] started here with the throwing the ball,” said former head coach John Miech. “Monty brought the famed 'aerial circus' to Stevens Point and with several quarterbacks and receivers making the list is a real tribute to what he did here.”
Simpson and Kriewaldt represented UWSP on the defensive side of the ball.
“Simpson and Kriewaldt epitomize the strong defenses we've had here as well,” said Miech. “They were two of the best defensive players to ever play at UWSP.”
All-Time Team members will receive certificates from the conference and it is hoped that most, if not all, of the recipients will be in attendance or represented at the WIAC Centennial Banquet to be held at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison on August 4, 2012.
