UW-Stevens Point finishes ninth in 2010-11 Directors’ Cup Standings

CLEVELAND – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point finishes the 2010-11 academic year ranked ninth in NCAA Division III in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, a program designed to recognize the best athletic programs in the country.

Final Standings

UWSP collected 686.25 points in the annual running for the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) award.

In sixth place before the final spring standings were released, the Pointers earned points thanks to a 17th place finish by baseball, a 14th place finish by men's outdoor track & field, and a 45th place finish by women's outdoor track & field to finish in ninth place.

This marks the 14th consecutive year UWSP has finished in the top 25 in the race for the prestigious award. This also marks the eighth time the athletic programs have finish in the top 10.

Williams College (Mass.) secured its 13th straight Directors' Cup by amassing 1,147 points. Middlebury (Vt.) finished second, Washington University (Mo.) finished third, Amherst (Mass.) fourth, and Calvin (Mich.) was fifth. 

UW-Whitewater was the highest Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) finisher, coming in sixth overall with 722.75 points. 

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports - nine women's and nine men's.
