STEVENS POINT, Wis. – For every goal the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team scored on Saturday UW-Stevens Point had the answer but the Pointers could not push across the go-ahead goal as the two teams skated to a 3-3 tie at Ice Hawks Arena.
Eau Claire scored the game's first goal at the 17:04 mark of the opening period, as Stevens Point native Emily Haluska gave the Blugolds a 1-0 edge.
In the second, the Pointers responded with an unassisted goal by
Allie Tanzer (Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls), evening the score at 1-1.
Eau Claire again pushed in front on a power play goal by Sam Knutson at the four minute mark, 2-1. Stevens Point answered with a shorthanded goal by
Erika Greenen (Naperville, IL/Central) at the 12 minute mark, knotting the score at two goals each.
In the third, Eau Claire again went in front, 3-2, this time on a Nikki Kothenbeutel goal at 11:57.
Brooke Hanson (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove) scored the final goal of the game at the 13:01 mark of the third, squaring the score at 3-3.
Neither team was able to capitalize on opportunities in the overtime period as the team's skated to a tie.
Janna Bielke-Skoug stopped 25 shots on net and Eau Claire's Morgan Pieper made 21 saves on the afternoon.
UW-Stevens Point (6-2-2, 5-2-1 NCHA) will not return to action until after the New Year with a weekend series against Gustavus Adolphus on Jan. 6-7 at Ice Hawks Arena.
