Late goal leads Warhawks past Pointers

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point held a 2-1 edge in the second half Saturday afternoon but it was not enough as the Pointer women's soccer team fell to UW-Whitewater 3-2 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) action at the Point Soccer Bowl. 

Whitewater took the lead in the 39th minute of the opening half, as Madeline Lardner scored to give the visitors the 1-0 edge. 

Hannah Burt (Wind Lake, WI/Muskego) evened the score for the Pointers in the 55th minute, scoring off a pass from Kim Jobke (Menomonee Falls, WI/Sussex Hamilton)

Sammy Greer (Rubicon, WI/Hartford) put the Pointers in front 2-1 just 10 minutes later, scoring unassisted to give UWSP the lead. 

Under a minute later, Whitewater's Christina Tooren found the back of the net to knot the score at 2-2. 

The game remained tied until the 87th minute when Whitewater's Emily Gerber scored on a Tooren cross to give the Warhawks the lead and the victory. 

Brittany Marx (Washburn, WI/Washburn) tallied four saves on the afternoon while her Whitewater counterpart, Jordan Myers, tallied two. 

UW-Stevens Point (8-6, 3-4 WIAC) returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at St. Mary's in Winona, Minn. for the final nonconference match-up of the 2011 season.
