Tanzer's Hat Trick Leads Pointers Past Bulldogs

STEVENS POINT- Allie Tanzer (Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls) 's hat trick helped lead the Pointers past the Bulldogs of Adrian College, 4-1 Sunday afternoon at Ice Hawks Arena.

After just over 16 minutes of scoreless action, Allie Tanzer (Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls) struck with her first goal of the game 16:04 into the first period giving the Pointers a 1-0 lead.  #Sam Lorr (Chisago, MN/Chisago Lakes) and (Woodbury, MN/Mahtomedi/Robert Morris)Megan Nickelson# had assists on the play.  Tanzer's first goal was a power play goal and happened just eight seconds into the Pointer power play.

The Pointers then put themselves up 2-0 when Tanzer scored again, this time seven minutes and seven seconds into the second period.  Tanzer scored her second goal off a pass from Cassandra Salmen (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater).

With 1:35 remaining in the third period the Pointers put another goal on the board as Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) deflected in a shot from Nickelson.  #Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville)# also had an assist on the play, giving the Pointers a 3-0 lead.

Adrian made things a little interesting in the third period as they scored with 14:59 remaining to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Pointers.  Danielle Maludy scored the goal for the Bulldogs.

Tanzer then answered again, this time on the power play, for the hat trick with 2:20 remaining in the game.  Tanzer was assisted by Michelle Lunneborg (Richfield, MN/Richfield).

Tanzer now has a team leading 13 goals and 20 points this season.

Staci Pomering (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah) had another solid game in net for the Pointers as she finished with 25 saves.  Over the two games against the Bulldogs this weekend, Pomering had 61 saves.

The win improves the Pointers to 9-4-1 on the season and 5-4-1 in the NCHA, while the Bulldogs dropped to 6-2-2 in league play.

The Pointers return to action on Friday when they travel to UW-Eau Claire for a weekend series with the Blugolds.  Game time on Friday night is set for 7:00 p.m.
