Pointers Host First/Second Round Games

STEVENS POINT - For the first time since March of 2007, University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point's Quandt Fieldhouse and Bennett Court will serve as a site for the first and second rounds of the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament.

The Pointers, who will make their eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and their fourth straight, will host Carleton College (Minn.) an opening round game on Friday evening. In the other first round game, Hope College (Mich.) will face St. Norbert College. The winners will advance and play on Saturday evening for the right to advance to the Sweet 16.

The evening's first match-up features the Flying Dutch of Hope College (21-7), winners of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's (MIAA) automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by virtue of a 78-74 victory over rival Calvin last weekend. The Flying Dutch make their fifth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and their 21st trip overall.

Their opponent will be the Green Knights of St. Norbert College (22-3). This is the third trip to the NCAA Division III tournament for the Green Knights and their first since 1984. St. Norbert enters the tournament with the Midwest Conference's automatic bid by way of an 85-74 victory over Carroll University.

The evening's final match-up will feature the Pointers, winners of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (WIAC) automatic bid by way of a 63-57 road victory over UW-Whitewater. This is the eighth appearance for the Pointers in the NCAA tournament and their fourth straight.

The Pointers will face Carleton College, winners of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (MIAC) automatic bid by way of an overtime victory over Gustavus Adolphus. The Knights are making their second-ever appearance in the national tournament.

Friday's first game will take place at 5:30 p.m. with the Pointers taking on the Knights at 8 p.m. The gym will be cleared between games. Fans wishing to attend both games will need to purchase tickets to each session.
