Subway Athletes of the Week - 02/08/10

STEVENS POINT - UW-Stevens Point has named Athletes of the Week for the weeks of Feb. 1-7. The program is sponsored by Subway.

Men's Basketball
Jordan Giordana, Freshman (Kaukauna, Wis.)
Jordan Giordana, freshman (Kaukauna, Wis.) had a game high and Pointer career high 17 points this past week in a tight game at UW-Stout. Giordana was 6-9 from the field and 57% from three point land. Giordana also tallied his third steal of the year in a career high 23 minutes of play.

Women's Basketball
Andrea Flease, Junior (New London, Wis.)
Andrea Flease, junior (New London, Wis.), scored 16 points in a game high 39 minutes against UW-Stout. Flease shot 36% from the field, but was a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe. Flease also led the Pointers in rebounds (9), assists (4), and steals (4). On the season Flease leads the Pointers in assists (99) and steals (54).

Men's Hockey
Kent Detlefsen, Sophomore (Lakeville, Minn.)
Kent Detlefsen, sophomore (Lakeville, Minn.), scored his first goals as a Pointer on Friday night against his former team, UW-Superior. Detlefsen opened the game's scoring with a power-play goal six minutes into the second period. In the third Detlefsen scored the only other Pointer goal with another power-play strike. On Saturday against St. Scholastica, Detlefsen powered the Pointer offense with an assist and another goal. Early in the second period Detlefsen assisted on an even-strength goal to put the Pointers on the board. With 6:45 left in the game Detlefsen scored an unassisted goal to bring his season point total to ten points in nine games.

Women's Hockey
Erin Marvin, Sophomore (Shoreview, Minn.)
In a repeat of last week Erin Marvin, sophomore (Shoreview, Minn.), is the Pointer Women's Hockey Athlete of the Week. Marvin tallied three goals in a weekend series against UW-Eau Claire. On Friday Marvin hit the back of the 14 minutes into he second period for the Pointer's first goal of the night. Less than five minutes later Marvin put an even-strength shot past the keeper to score her second goal of the game. On Saturday Marvin assisted on an even-strength goal to open the scoring. Midway through the third Marvin scored her tenth goal of the season to end the scoring and secure the Pointer victory

Track & Field
Men:

Field – Mike Dellemann, Senior (Oregon, Wis.)
For the second straight week senior Mike Delleman (Oregon, Wis.) is a Point Athlete of the Week. Delleman placed first in the Pentathlon this past weekend at the Pointer Multi-Event. Delleman placed first in the 55 meter Hurdle and the Long Jump portions of the event. Delleman's time in the hurdles (7.63) is the fourth fastest time in the country and qualifies him for the NCAA Championships

Track Phil Richert, Senior (Andover, Minn.)
Phil Richert, senior (Andover, Minn.), was the top Pointer finisher and the second overall finisher in the 5,000 meter run at the Squig Converse Invitational hosted by UW-Whitewater. Richert's time of 14:35.10 was fast enough to earn a NCAA qualifying spot.

Women:
Track –
Sara Kline, Senior (Casco, Wis.)
Sara Kline, senior (Casco, Wis.), set the school record and earned a NCAA provisional qualifying spot while winning the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.43 at the Pointer Multi-Event this past weekend at the Pointer Multi-Event.

Field – Katie Meyer, Sophomore (Lake Mills, Wis.)
Katie Meyer, sophomore (Lake Mills, Wis.), set a personal record in the Pentathlon this past weekend. Meyer finished in the top nine in all five events with a high finish of fourth in the 800 meter run. Overall Meyer finished seventh with 2,439 points.

Swimming/Diving
Matthew Teske, Junior (Faribault, Minn.)
Matt Teske, junior (Faribault, Minn.), was the top Division III finisher in two events at the 2010 Minnesota Challenge. In 100 yard backstroke Teske finished fifth overall with a time of 58.06. Competing in the 200 yard backstroke Teske finished with a time of 2:07.86 that was good for eighth place. Teske also swam a 22.11 in the 50 yard freestyle event.

Caitlin Dickman, Senior (Merrill, Wis.)
Senior Caitlin Dickman (Merrill, Wis.) competed in three events this past weekend at the 2010 Minnesota Challenge. Dickman was the top UWSP finisher in the 200 yard backstroke and the 500 yard medley with times of 2:19.05 and 5:39.11 respectively. Dickman also competed in the 100 yard backstroke finishing with a time of 1:05.62.
