Pointers Offense Dominates in Victory

Box Score

EAU CLAIRE – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team put together a high powered offensive attack as they rebounded from last night's loss with a 6-2 victory over UW-Eau Claire at Hobbs Ice Arena on Saturday evening.

Freshman Michelle Lunneborg (Richfield, MN) tallied one of her two goals on the night with 6:11 remaining in the first period with an assist from Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View). The Blugolds answered back shortly after with a goal from Allison Malecek tying the score 1-1 at the end of the first period.

The Pointers didn't wait long to pull back in front thanks to an unassisted goal from Jessica Edward (Sherrard, IL) with 18:54 left the second period. The Pointers then took advantage of a power play opportunity with Amber Ostoff (North Mankato, MN) setting up Samantha Scheving (Warroad, MN) with her fourth goal of the season giving the Pointers a 3-1 lead.

The Blugolds answered back at the 1:11 mark with a goal from junior Christine Dickinson with her 13th goal of the season.

UW-Stevens Point's Ann Hulme (Shaker Heights, OH) then shut the Blugolds down for the rest of the evening and the Pointers offense put the game out of reach. Hulme registered 25 saves on the night.

Lunnenborg scored her second goal of the night and eighth on the season along with Tracy Butler (Marshfield) to put the Pointers in the lead 5-2. Brooke Hanson (Maple Grove, MN), Erika Greenen (Naperville, IL) and Maren Dvorak (Northfield, MN) were credited with assists.

The final points of the night were from the Pointer's Marvin who chipped in with her 10th goal of the season, assisted from Hanson.

The Pointers record now stands at 11-7-2 overall and 6-4-2 in NCHA play with the Blugolds falling to 10-8-3 overall and 5-5-2 in the NCHA.

The Pointers will travel to Gustavus Adolphus in a non-conference match-up on Feb. 9. The puck is set to hit the ice at 7 p.m.
