STEVENS POINT - The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team could not hold off UW-Stout's quest to get head coach Mark Thomas his 400th career win, as the Pointers 12 game winning streak was snapped on Wednesday night in the Berg Gymnasium with a 90-76 win by Stout.

The Pointers started the game off slow managing just 13 field goals while shooting 38.2 percent from the field. The Pointers were down 13 points at one time in the first but managed to cut the deficit to six points by the half.

The Blue Devils got off to a quick start shooting 57.1 percent from the field and dominated the boards grabbing 21 compared to the Pointers 13.

The Blue Devils started off the second half strong as they opened the half 13-6 run and extended their lead up to 14.

Freshman Josi Schultz (Eau Claire) tried to give the Pointers a spark off the bench scoring 12 of her team high 22 points in the half helping the Pointers cut the lead to four points. However, a pair of free throws by Danielle DeWitt and three pointers by both Kimmy Keehr and DeWitt halted the Pointers comeback pushing the lead back up to 12.

Forward Julia Hirssig helped the Blue Devils control the boards as they out rebounded the Pointers 46-26. Hirssig grabbed eight of her 12 rebounds on the offensive end. She also notched a double-double on the evening with a game high 27 points.

The Pointers' Andrea Flease (New London) added 16 points along with nine rebounds while Britta Petersen (Luck) and Cassie Bandow (Plover) chipped in the 15 and 10 respectfully.

Also scoring in double digits for the Blue Devils was DeWitt with 20, Kim Stokke with 12 and Megan Maslowski with 10.

The Pointers will take the rest of the week off before trying to start up their winning streak again next Wednesday as they travel to UW-Eau Claire. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
