EAU CLAIRE - The 22nd ranked UW-Stevens Point wrestling team cruised to a 40-3 victory against UW-Eau Claire in their final regular season dual Saturday at the McPhee Physical Education Center in Eau Claire.
Junior Ben Engelland (Neenah) kept his record unblemished with a pin against Will Christ just 2:15 into his 184 pound match. Engelland's record for the season stands at 27-0 and is currently ranked second in Division III.
The Pointers Jordan Schulte (Mosinee) improved his record to 21-8 with a 10-2 major decision at 165 pounds against the Blugolds Levi Polus. Brandon Jochem (Hustisford) Jordan Kust (Clintonville), and Ryan Conat (New London) also won their matches by major decision.
Senior Bret Oswald (Antigo) won his 285 pound match with a 7-4 victory and Freshman Ben Strobel (Neenah) held on at 157 pounds with a 6-5 final.
The Blugolds lone win came at 149 pounds with Andy Johnston coming out on top against Kris Magruder (Racine) with a 4-2 victory.
UW-Stevens Point closed out the regular season with a record of 10-12. The Pointers will host the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships which start Sunday, February 21 at 9 a.m.
