Pointers knock-off Bulldogs 3-0

STEVENS POINT – The Pointer women's hockey team used two second period power play goals to power their way past the Bulldogs of Adrian College 3-0 on Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action Saturday evening at IceHawks Arena.

Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) struck first for the Pointers, scoring on an even strength goal 9:36 into the opening period, giving the Pointers a 1-0 advantage over the league-leading Bulldogs.

In the second the Pointers tacked on two power play goals, one from Brooke Hanson (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove) and another from Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View), as the Pointers pushed the advantage to 3-0, UWSP.

In the third, d'Andra Phillips tallied nine of her 24 saves to preserve the shutout and knock Adrian out of first place in the NCHA.

Adrian held the advantage in shots on goal, outshooting the Pointers 26-24.

The Pointers and Bulldogs return to action Sunday afternoon at IceHawks. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday is also Senior Day for the Pointers.
