STEVENS POINT – Ben Engelland (Neenah/Neenah), Chad Gregory (Lawton, OK/Lawton) and Matt Cuadra all tallied pins to push an early 4-0 advantage for the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team into a 22-0 edge as the Pointers went on to record a 40-3 victory over UW-Platteville in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wrestling action Thursday evening. 

Ryan Conat (New London, WI/New London) got things started for the Pointers with his major decision at 174 pounds over Platteville's Nathan Schmitz. Second-ranked Engelland made quick work of his opponent at 184 pounds with a pin in 1 minute 51 seconds, pushing the Pointers edge to 10-0. The win for Engelland is his 13^th of the season.

At 197, Gregory pushed his record to 8-1 with a pin in 2:38, giving the Pointers the 16 point advantage. Cudra followed that with a pin of his own at the 2:20 mark, making the lead 22-0. Cuadra was moved into the starting line-up after an injury to starter Steve Wozniak (Neillsville/Greenwood). 

In the only match-up of the night between ranked opponents, it was 125-pounder Joe Mileski (Gladstone, MI/Gladstone), ranked sixth, who came up with the nail-biting 5-4 victory over 10^th-ranked Mack Drees. 

The Pioneers lone victory came from sophomore Allen Fish, who took a 1-0 decision at 133 pounds. 

The Rest of the way, Shane Sweeney (Madison, WI/Edgewood), Kris Magruder (Racine/Case) and Ben Strobel (Neenah, WI/Neenah) all tallied major decisions while freshman Bill Langford (Westosha, WI/Westosha Central) capped the evening with a 9-7 overtime victory at 165 pounds to give the Pointers the 40-3 win.

UW-Stevens Point (4-2, 2-0 WIAC) returns to the mat this weekend, Dec. 11, at the Dubuque Duals in Iowa.
