STEVENS POINT – The 14th-ranked UW-Stevens Point wrestling team opened the conference portion of their schedule at home on Tuesday evening with a 30-3 victory over 17th-ranked UW-Oshkosh at Berg Gym. The Pointers tallied three major decisions on the evening and won nine of 10 matches.
The Pointers' Jordan Schulte (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee), ranked eighth in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll, earned an 8-2 victory over Oshkosh's Aaron Konitzer. Ryan Conat (New London, WI/New London) and second-ranked Ben Engelland (Neenah/Neenah) followed with victories of their own, both by major decision, to give the Pointers an 11-0 lead early on.
The lone victory of the evening came for the Titans' seventh-ranked Sam Engelland, who won 6-1 over Brandon Jochem (Hustisford/Hustisford).
From there, the Pointers rebounded with a heavyweight victory by Steve Wozniak (Neillsville/Greenwood), who pushed his record to 13-2. Eighth-ranked Joe Mileski (Gladstone, MI/Gladstone) added a 3-1 victory at 125 and Jordan Kust (Clintonville, WI/Shawano), Shane Sweeney (Madison, WI/Edgewood), Kris Magruder (Racine/Case) and Ben Strobel (Neenah, WI/Neenah) followed with wins of their own to lead the Pointers to the 30-3 win.
The Pointers have won the previous 10 match-ups with the Titans.
UW-Stevens Point (2-0, 1-0 WIAC) returns to action this weekend at the La Crosse 4x2 duals hosted by UW-La Crosse. The Pointers then return home for another conference match against the Pioneers of UW-Platteville on Dec. 9.
