STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team pushed its win streak to 12 games on Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 66-50 win over UW-Superior at Berg Gym.
A quick start by the Pointers led to a 9-0 lead before the Yellowjackets could get on the board. The Pointers defense held the Yellowjackets to just six field goals (28.6%) in the first half to put them in a 35-15 deficit at halftime. The Pointers shot 40.6 percent in the opening half.
The Yellowjackets outscored the Pointers in the second half 35-31 but the 20 point halftime advantage was too much to overcome as the Pointers cruised to the 16 point victory.
Sophomore
Ashley Averkamp (New Berlin) led way with 14 points on five of seven shooting.
Josi Schultz (Eau Claire)also added 13 points and
Andrea Flease (New London) dished out a game high five assists.
The leading scorer for the Yellowjackets was Kelsey Thingvold with nine.
The Pointer women (17-3, 9-2 WIAC) will host the UW- Stout Blue Devils on Wednesday, February 3rd. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
