STEVENS POINT – UW-River Falls jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on to hand the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team a 3-1 loss in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) hockey action Friday evening at IceHawks Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Katie Flanagan opened the scoring at the 2:23 mark of the second period, finding the back of the net and giving the visitors the 1-0 lead. Breanna Hrabe added another goal for the Falcons in the second at the 18:15 mark, giving UWRF the 2-0 advantage after two.
In the third, Flanagan struck again, notching her second goal of the game and giving River Falls a 3-0 edge.
Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN) scored the lone goal of the game for the Pointers at the 17:55 mark of the third with the extra attacker, but Cassi Campbell turned away 27 of the Pointers 28 shots on goal to seal the 3-1 win.
d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI) tallied 23 saves on the evening in suffering the loss for UWSP.
The Pointers and Falcons tangle again on Saturday afternoon, as both team's take the ice for a 2:30 p.m. match-up at Ice Hawks Arena.
