SAINT PAUL, MINN. (January 26, 2010) – UW-Stevens Point senior goalie
d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI/Swartz Creek) (Swartz Creek, Mich.) has been named Player of the Week for the week of January 18 - 24, marking the second time this month she has received the award. Phillips made 74 saves in two games while leading the Pointers to a split at #8 UW-Superior.
Last Friday Phillips surrendered a first period power play goal to the Yellowjackets, but slammed the door from that point on. She made 12 saves in the first, 13 in the second and 14 in the third for a total of 39 on the night. The Pointers tied the game in the second and scored the eventual game-winner at 1:01 of the third for a 2-1 victory.
Phillips played well again on Saturday, giving up one goal on 36 shots. Again, the goal came on the power play in the first period. But UW-Stevens Point was unable to score the equalizer as it lost in a 1-0 final. The Pointers were shutout by UW-Superior goalie Melissa Kunzelman, who made 18 saves.
Phillips has lowered her goals against average nearly one goal per game (2.36) in her past four games while giving up just four goals over that span. Her save percentage has climbed from .860 to .918.
