STEVENS POINT --- The 20th ranked UW-Stevens Point wrestling team (9-8) fell in a non-conference dual against the 11th ranked St. John's Johnnies (10-9) in the Berg Gymnasium Monday evening 30-9.
The Pointers started the match off quick in the 184 pound class with a pin from junior
Ben Engelland (Neenah) in just 1:48. Engelland improved his record to 24-0 and is currently ranked second in Division III.
The Pointers only other victory came from senior
Bret Oswald (Antigo) at 285 pounds. In a hard fought match Oswald took the lead in overtime to give the Pointers a 9-4 lead.
The Johnnies went on to take the next seven matches from the Pointers on their way to a 30-9 victory.
The Pointers will travel to St. John's University for the North Country Open on Saturday, January 30th. The tournament starts at 9 a.m.
