Britta Petersen (Luck) scored 12 of her game-high 25 points in the game's first eight minutes as the Pointers pushed their winning streak to 10 games on Saturday afternoon with a 60-54 WIAC victory over the Titans of UW-Oshkosh.
Petersen put the Pointers out in front early, goingt 7-13 from the floor in the game's first half. UWSP ran up a nine point lead, 20-11, midway through the opening half before the Titans began to cut into the Pointer lead. The Titans chipped away at the deficit and took their first lead of the game at the 5:30 mark, going in front 21-20.
The Pointers and Titans traded blows as the first half ended and entered the halftime locker room deadlocked at 29.
In the second half, both teams continued to trade the lead until the Pointers scored 14 straight points, turning a three point deficit into an 11 point lead with 2:59 to play and went on to the six point victory.
The Pointers held the Titans to just 38.5 percent shooting from the floor in the game's opening half and 41.3 percent for the game while the Titans held a plus-10 advantage in rebounding.
Petersen's 25 marks a new career-high. She added five rebounds and four steals on the day in 34 minutes of work.
Cassie Bandow (Plover) finished as the only other Pointer in double figures, adding 10 points.
Ashley Averkamp (New Berlin) finished as the team's leading rebounder, collecting seven boards.
Laura Ebbens led the Titans with 13 points while Michelle Boeder added 12 in the loss.
The 20th-ranked Pointers (15-3, 7-2 WIAC) return to action next Wednesday, Jan. 27 when they travel to UW-Whitewater. Game time Wednesday is scheduled for 7 p.m.
