STEVENS POINT – UW-Stevens Point posted several top finishers at the 2010 Point Invite. It was determined that no team scores would be kept after several teams were required to miss Saturday's Finals due deteriorating weather conditions.
Highlights from the men's side included several top finishers including the 200 freestyle relay of Matt Olp,
Ryan Golz (Inver Grove Heights, MN/Simley),
Eric Emerson (River Falls, WI/) and Sam Davy took home the title, posting a time of 1:25.89 in the event finals.
Brent Schwartz (Waukesha/South) and
Sam Betterley (Castle Rock, MN/Northfield) finish 1-2 in the 200 breaststroke, posting times of 2:09.53 and 2:13.58, respectively.
Zach Desy captured the men's 200 butterfly title with a time of 2:03.43
The 200 medley relay team of Matt Olp, Ben Scheiber,
Ryan Farmer (Naperville, IL/) and
Sam Davy (Stevens Point, WI/) finished first with a time of 1:37.55
The trio of
Sam Betterley (Castle Rock, MN/Northfield),
Chris Hruska (Verona/Verona) and
Zach Desy (Escanaba, MI/) finished 1-2-3 in the men's 400 IM, with Betterley posting the top time of 4:23.96
Ryan Golz (Inver Grove Heights, MN/Simley),
Ryan Farmer (Naperville, IL/) and
Joey Clapp (Faribault, MN/) finished 1-2-3 in the 100 butterfly with Golz's time of 55.01 tops in the event.
Olp,
Matt Teske (Faribault, MN/Faribault), Schwartz and Ben Scheiber finished one through four in the 100 breaststroke. Olp finished with the events top time of 59.45
The Pointers made it a near clean sweep of the 50 freestyle, taking home the top seven spots in the event.
Matt Olp (Oregon/Oregon) finished with the top time in the event, finishing in 22.12.
On the women's side, even with only three first place finishes in the finals, the Pointers took home the title thanks in part to the 200 medley relay team of
Diandra Nero (Green Bay, WI/),
Kelly Kading (De Pere, WI/),
Lisa Clemens (Wisconsin Dells, WI/) and
Jes Nordstrom (Hibbing, MN/Hibbing) who finished ahead of the field with a time of 1:52.15.
Lindsay Lukes (Austin, MN/) also finished with a top time of 1:57.83 in the 200 freestyle and
Jennifer Bussey (Ohanhassen, MN/Chaska) finished with the top time in the 100 breaststroke final, 1:08.75.
The Pointers return to the pool for a match-up with the Eagles of UW-La Crosse on Jan. 30. Action begins at 1 p.m.
