Point Swims Past Titans and Warhawks at Tri Dual

WHITEWTATER - The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's swimming and diving teams returned to action after over a month away from competition in the pool, defeating both UW-Whitewater and UW-Oshkosh in action Saturday in Whitewater.

On the men's side, the Pointers picked up a 207-86 victory over UW-Oshkosh and a 210-78 victory over UW-Whitewater. On the women's side, the Pointers posted a 240-60 victory over the Titans and a 214-83 mark against the Warhawks.

Women's Highlights:
The 400 medley relay team of Diandra Nero (Green Bay, WI/), Jennifer Bussey (Ohanhassen, MN/Chaska), Lisa Clemens (Wisconsin Dells, WI/) and Traci Gibb (Cedarburg, WI/) finished first with a time of 4:10.62.

Lindsay Lukes finished second overall in the 1000 freestyle, posting a time of 11:14.70.

Whitney Boehme (Thiensville, WI/) took home the 200 freestyle title, finishing with a time of 2:02.74

Lisa Clemens finished second overall in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.08

Jennifer Bussey won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.27

Leah Baiotto and Katie Buhr (Faribault, MN/Faribault) finished 2-3 in the 200 butterfly with times of 2:22.91 and 2:27.70 respectively.

The Pointers made a clean sweep of the top three places in the 50 freestyle, as Andrea Wagner (Apple Valley, MN/), Kelly Kading (De Pere, WI/) and Jessica Nordstrom (Hibbing, MN/Hibbing) finished 1-3 with times of 25.20, 25.80 and 26.06.

Wagner, Nordstrom and Ashley Majewski (Elm Grove, WI/Catholic Memorial) also made it a 1-2-3 sweep of the 100 freestyle, posting times of 55.64, 55.96 and 56.94.

Diandra Nero took home the top spot in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:14.01

Jennifer Bussey took home the top spot in the 200 breaststroke as well, posting a time of 2:29.79.

Lindsay Lukes, Beth Ann Abraham and Ashley May (Bolingbrook, IL/) made it another 1-2-3 sweep in the 500 freestyle, as the trio took home top honors in the event, posting sub 5:29 times.

Katie Buhr (Faribault, MN/Faribault) and Andrea Wagner took the top two spots in the 100 butterfly, posting times of 1:02.37 and 1:02.94 respectively

Boehme, Bussey, Lauren Golla (Plover/SPASH) and Traci Gibb (Cedarburg, WI/) finished 1-4 in the 200 IM, with Boehme posting the top time of 2:20.59.

The UWSP 'A' and 'B' relay teams took home the top two spots in the 400 freestyle relay, as the team of Andrea Wagner, Whitney Boehme, BethAnn Abraham and Kim Kuber (Tomahawk, WI/) finished with a 3:48.97 time in the event.

The Pointers also took home the top three spots in both the one and three meter dives, as Anna Nyland (Eau Claire, WI/), Jenna Shelerud (Esko, MN/) and Ashlee Brager (River Falls, WI/) finished 1-2-3 in both events.

Men's Highlights
The Pointer 'A' and 'B' teams took home the top two spots in the 400 medley relay, led by the team of Ian Girdley (Verona, WI/), Brent Schwartz, Ryan Farmer (Naperville, IL/) and Joey Clapp (Faribault, MN/), who posted a time of 3:38.64.

Samuel Betterley (Castle Rock, MN/Northfield) and Rielly Douugherty finished 2-3 in the 1000 freestyle, posting times of 10:33.33 and 10:39.22 respectively.

Ryan Farmer and Colin Drake (Mendota Heights, MN/) finished 2-3 in the men's 200 freestyle, posting times of 1:49.79 and 1:54.28.

Ian Girdley and Jake Pelishek (Ashwaubenon/) finished 1-2 in the 100 backstroke, posting times of 57.23 and 58.35 respectively.

Matt Olp (Oregon/Oregon), Brent Schwartz, Shaun Marcott (Madison/) and Matt Teske (Faribault, MN/Faribault) finished in the top four spots in the 100 breaststroke. Olp finished with a sub 1:00 time, posting a 59.17.

Ross Freiderich (Rosemount, MN/) finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:06.11.

UWSP took home the top three spots in the 50 freestyle, as Ryan Golz (Inver Grove Heights, MN/Simley), Joey Clapp and Ryan Farmer all posted sub :23 second times led by Golz's 22.21

Jake Pelishek, Colin Drake and Vaughn Forsythe (Coral Springs, FL/North Broward Prep) finished 2-3-4 in the 100 freestyle, with Pelishek's time of 49.98 just 0.10 seconds behind the top finisher from Whitewater.

Matt Olp finished with a time of 2:01.65 in the 200 backstroke, taking the top finish in the event.

Brent Schwartz, Sam Davy (Stevens Point, WI/), Jeff Peterson (Verona, WI/) and Shaun Marcott finished 1-4 in the 200 breaststroke, with Schwartz posting an impressive time of 2:11.57, nine seconds ahead of sedond place and almost 15 seconds ahead of the next non-UWSP swimmer.

Chris Hruska (Verona/Verona) and Reilly Dougherty (Hibbing, MN/) finished 1-2 in the 500 freestyle, posting times of 5:08.48 and 5:10.70.

Ryan Farmer, Ross Freiderich (Rosemount, MN/) and Eric Emerson (River Falls, WI/) finished 2-4 in the 100 butterfly, with Farmer finishing with a 52.89, just .41 seconds behind first place.

Matt Olp, Zach Desy (Escanaba, MI/) and Brent Schwartz finished 2-3-4 in the 200 IM, posting times of 2:01.91, 2:03.21 and 2:05.75.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Olp, Eric Emerson, Golz and Desy finished in the top spot, posting a time of 3:20.87.



The Pointers return to action Jan. 22-23 when they host the Point Invite. Action begins each day at 9 a.m.
