STEVENS POINT-The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-4-1, 3-2-1 NCHA) left no doubt Friday night as they defeated the Marian University Sabres (2-10, 1-4 NCHA) 10-0 at Ice Hawks Arena. Seven different players scored for the Pointers including a hat trick by freshman
Brooke Hanson (Maple Grove, MN).
The Pointers wasted little time as they scored 3:39 into the first period on a goal by
Amber Ostoff (North Mankato, MN) assisted by Hanson. Stevens Point added another goal in the first period when
Tracy Butler (Marshfield) found the net with an assist from
Ariel Novak (Lindstrom, MN).
The Pointers added three goals in the second period all coming within a seven minute span with one each from Hanson,
Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN), and Novak.
The Pointers added five goals in the third period including three power plays, with Hanson scoring two of them off assists from Novak and
Erika Greenen (Naperville, IL).
Stevens Point goalie
d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI) was in the net for the shutout with 12 saves.
Three goalies combined for 28 saves for Marian.
The Pointers and Sabres return to action tomorrow at Ice Hawks Arena with the puck set to drop at 2:30 p.m.
