SAINT PAUL, MINN. (January 12, 2010) – UW-Stevens Point goaltender
d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI/Swartz Creek) (Swartz Creek, Mich.) was busy last Saturday in an important matchup with rival Gustavus; that performance was worthy of Player of the Week, as was announced today by the NCHA today.
The Pointers lost to the Golden Gusties 2-0, but Phillips gave her team a chance to win by making 41 saves on the afternoon. She starting things off by stopping all 18 shots she saw in the opening period. She stopped 16-of-18 in the second and all seven shots in the third.
The performance could be a momentum builder for Phillips as she continues to lower her goals against average and raise her save percentage. She stands at 3.27 and .885, respectively, but her playing time has come against strong MIAC opponents (St. Thomas, St. Olaf, Gustavus) and Lake Forest - which is in
first place in the NCHA.
UW-Stevens Point (7-4-1, 2-1-1 NCHA) return to action on Friday, Jan. 15 when the team plays host to Marian University in conference action scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Ice Hawks Arena.
