STEVENS POINT - The Pointer men's cross country team moved up three spots in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Div. III National Poll, moving from 13th to 10th. The Pointers also moved up to the fifth spot in the latest Midwest Regional polls.
North Central College begins the week ranked first by the USTFCCCA, followed by WIAC counterpart UW-La Crosse. SUNY Cortland comes into the week ranked third and Williams College sits at fourth. Allegheny College rounds out the top five for this week.
The Pointers moved up three spots after they won the team championship last week Friday at the 2009 Brissman/Lundeen Cross Country Invitational, hosted by Augustana College at the Credit Island Golf Course. The Pointers had a strong team effort, as they had runners finish third-seventh place.
Tim Thornburg (Delafield) led the pack, finishing third with a time of 25:38.9.
The Pointers return to action Friday, Oct. 2, when they travel to the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., for the Notre Dame Invite.
